Big Online Casino Sponsorship Deal in Jeopardy
One of the biggest sponsorship deals in the world of online casino gambling might be in jeopardy after the United Kingdom Minister of Sports commented on the issue and said that sponsoring an online casino brand might be illegal in Great Britain. Tottenham, one of England's greatest soccer clubs, has signed a deal with a popular online casino group, and according to the agreement the online gambling brand will be featured on Tottenham players' shirts. If the deal goes though, the online casino firm will pay GBP34 million for that privilege. However, that is not so certain all of a sudden.
The British government is afraid that by endorsing an online casino brand, the soccer clubs might cause children to believe that online casino gambling is something that they should be involved in, as there favorite soccer club promotes it. Although the concern for the younger age is legit, this claim has no real basis. Tottenham soccer club's chairman said in a statement that the Mister of Sports' claims are "ridiculous" and that he does not see a scenario where the deal with the online casino firm is not fulfilled.
Taking a quick look at other products that sports clubs are endorsing paints a hypocrite picture. If clubs are able to feature the brand of alcohol manufactures on their shirts, the online casino industry should not be treated differently. True, online casino gambling is a controversial issue, especially in light of future regulation of the industry in the UK, but that does not mean that promoting the industry should be illegal.
